Dischordian is an acoustic project started by GarrethD’Melloin 2009. Originally conceived as a solo project, Dischordian slowly expanded to a four-piece band with multi-instrumentalists AgneloPicardo, Howard Pereira, and Nigel Rajaratnamon guitar, saxophone, trumpet, lap steel, melodica, mandolin, and percussion. Their sometimes dreamy, sometimes chaotic sound has found wide appreciation among a varied group of fans, primarily on the basis of their gigs and a bunch of early, low-fidemos.Spanning multiple genres, but primarily grounded in folk, punk, and blues, Dischordian’ssound is difficult to categoriseor describe. The band’s own favouritedescription comes from NH7: ‘Goa-tinged orchestral indie rock’.Since the band’s inception, they’ve been featured thrice on Stupid Ditties, the annual compilation of some of the country’s best underground acts, and in 2009 they were named as one of the most promising indie acts of the year by Indiecision. In April 2011, Dischordian released its much-awaited debut album The Feni Farm Riot at Blue Frog, Bombay, followed by promotional gigs in 5 major cities. The album features the more minimal, stripped down sound of the band’s early days, with arrangements consisting primarily of guitars, percussion, and trumpet. Recorded and mixed by Aviv Pereira, mastered by ZorranMendonsa, and with artwork by HemantKumar, the album has received an almost universally positive response from the Indian underground scene, including multiple nominations at the 2011 Jack Daniels Rock Awards.
