Their songs are now available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon, and are fast gaining popularity as caller tunes on the Indian cellular network [sms ZEDDE to 54646 for details]. Let’s just say it is their inimitable style of music that entitles Zedde as Mumbai's best shot at the resurgence of Rock N' Roll. Stay tuned.

It took two decades of obsessive practice and the influences of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Paul Gilbert to transform Claver into the guitar virtuoso that he is today. Watch him play. Enrich your life.

'The Beatroute' live at Hard Rock Cafe Pune on Thursday, August 11th!

First things first, it’s not the vegetable. After pondering over some of the most idiosyncratic names ever known to mankind, the band settled on one of them anyway. That said, The Beatroute is a result of some clever thinking and quirky wordplay. The plan was never to be too profound with the name, but these things happen. Formed in November 2010, The Beatroute is a five member band based in Mumbai with all its members spread across the gigantic city.

The band is the brainchild of Keyboard player Eeshan Tripathi and Drummer Gopal Dutta. Having taken a break from their regional rock band Arth, the extremely talented but restless duo decided to go ‘Firangi’. The route to The Beatroute wasn’t to be easy.

The Indian summer made them sweat over finding capable band members to play along with. Two guitar players, a bass guitarist and a few wasted jam sessions later; they finally found the permanent members to be. Guitarist - Vignesh Iyer, Bass player - Biswajit Chakroborty and Vocalist - Gregory Sarma. Having now settled upon a permanent line up, they embark upon the route that lay ahead.

The Beatroute is an Alternative Groove Rock Band and started off by playing covers ranging from U2, Incubus, Maroon5, Coldplay to Nickelback, Wolfmother etc. Apart from covers, it has also started composing original music and will be releasing it soon!

Members:
Gregory Sarma (Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar) - This soft spoken front man transforms into an energetic machine while on stage. Greg, as he likes to be called, is known for his tonal soaring voice and his capability to sway a crowd like the pied piper of Hamelin. He has been a part of now defunct bands called Nakshatra (based in Delhi) and Faith (Guwahati) as a vocalist.

Eeshan Tripathi (Piano/Backing Vocals) - Started playing the keyboard aged just five, he can make the transition from a modern rock piano solo to a Mozart symphony seem like everyday routine. The amalgamation of western classical music roots with contemporary musical influences has given rise to a disciplined,
dynamic and an imaginative pianist.

Gopal Dutta (Drums) - Here’s a well-known name among the Indian independent music scene faithful thanks to his presence behind the drums for classic rock band ‘Vayu’. Having grown up appreciating Rock and Jazz music, his watertight drumming is an exhibition of his knowledge of grooves and time signature. Also, if for some inexplicable reason the band happens to laugh out loud on stage, it must be his doing!

Vignesh Iyer (Rhythm and Lead Guitar) - Has been Influenced greatly by instrumental guitar albums, rock and western classical music. His dexterous fingers can alternate from playing riffs to scream eliciting solos while displaying his primarily melodic, controlled and lead oriented style. The Beatroute represents the beginning of a musical journey for the guitar player.

Biswajit Chakroborty (Bass Guitar) - One look at the sober, frail, pony tailed and black tee enveloped bass player reveals all you need to know about his influences. Metal it is and Progressive specifically. He has already taken a few steps to aping his idol John Myung by playing for Silver Tears, an acclaimed progressive metal band from Guwahati and continues to push the boundaries further as he journeys along the Beatroute.

'RLA' live at Hard Rock Cafe Hyderabad on Thursday, August 18th!

"Music is a higher revelation than philosophy."

A group of like minded musicians came together and thought that they could share their talents to create a musical outfit. No sooner did the notes hit right, there was an events horizon with a sparkling radiance of warmth and a foreseeable longstanding camaraderie.

A few rehearsals were enough to baptize this as, Retro Legendary Act, only to mean that the music that emanates from the souls of these musicians sound rich and logical to one and all.

Endeavoring to typecast this band is futile as there has been an extensive and exhaustive thought put into this taking into consideration the likes and dislikes of the English music loving crowd and songs that would be liked and enjoyed by music lovers from all walks of life.

Saying this, the band is now on the edge of the stage, all ready to walk on, and exhale its energy in a prismatic radiance, but only after the chemistry bonded well after 3 months of strenuous rehearsals.

THE BAND

Retro Legendary Act comprises of:
Vijay – vocalist for the band (powerful enough to be heard in a stadium without mics).Hailing from a rich musical past, Vijay has been delivering music for the musical masses for over 2 decades.

Ritesh (lead guitars) – uses Samick, and Ibanez guitars coupled with a Zoom and Digitek run through a Marshall amp.

Selvin (bass guitar) – uses a Yamaha bass (even belts out great melodies on a fretless bass if required)

Hrishi– uses a crisp sounding drum kit and can thunderstruck with his lightening solos.

Sourabh (keys) - adept at belting out a variety of musical forms. Uses a Korg Triton and can be a killer on the Hammond forms of backups.

Wolf’s Lair is accessible to a wide spectrum of listeners without ever sacrificing the integrity required to play this form of music from the heart.

Influenced by such great bands like Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Hammerfall, Nightwish, Manowar, Primal Fear, Death, Judas Priest, Kreator and more – the band captures the specialties of the various sub-genres of Metal without ever compromising on originality.

Blacklisted was formed in late 2008, when two college going students of Madras Christian College ( hehehehe, college going yeah right! ) Being bored and jobless, and with a sense of achieving something in life, Booby and Ninju decided to start a band and do something different with their spare time. With the inclusion of Ritwik and Samudra the band was complete.

The highlights of our short career have been winning NLS Strawberry Fields 2009, Going to hyderabad to participate in the 2ng leg of Campus Rock Idols 2009 and several other awards and accolades that were won in due course. DISCHORDIAN live at Hard Rock Cafe Hyderabad on Thursday, July 14th!

Dischordian began as my attempt to move away from the wall of sound and aggression and testosterone that makes up most rock music. I just wanted to do something new and different – keep the intensity and depth of feeling that is so important for any art to work, but strip the music down to its basics: one guitar and one voice, just rhythms and melodies and words.Dischordian is constantly evolving and is today a three-piece acoustic band whose members play guitars, harmonica, trumpet, djembe and a variety of other percussion instruments. The music incorporates all the sounds I have loved and learned from since I was a child, including country, pop, rock ‘n’ roll, punk, metal, folk, and a multitude of styles that have no real labels.

In the 12 months since the band was formed, we have played at practically every major venue in Bombay, and have developed a considerable following, based primarily on our live shows and a set of low-fi home demos.

Dischordian has just finished recording its as yet untitled debut album, which should bereleased by the summer of 2010. Stay tuned,
Garreth.

CURRENT LINE-UP

Garreth D’Mello – vocals, guitar, harmonica
Garreth has been the lead singer with Split, one of the country’s most popular and exciting alternative/post-grunge rock bands in the last decade. Split has played gigs all over the country as well as at festivals like Independence Rock, Great Indian Rock, and the Eastwind Festival.
Garreth is one of the key songwriters in Split, and has done short stints with other bands, including Forcefield, Mr John's Banned, and Zero. Garreth writes, composes,
and arranges all of Dischordian’s music.

Agnelo Picaardo – trumpet, maracas, djembe
Agnelo started out as a trumpet player, playing with the Bombay Chamber Orchestra at the age of only 12. In recent years, he has emerged as one of the most talented drummers around, playing with a variety of pop, rock, and jazz artists, including Aqua Flow, Abbey, Neha Bhasin, Pralay, and currently Depth.

Howard Pereiera – guitar, backing vocals

SONIC FLARE live at Hard Rock Cafe Hyderabad on Thursday, July 7th!

It is a daunting task to write an introduction of a band like Sonic Flare. Simply because, over the years, it has had many beginnings. So may be it makes sense to start at the very beginning.

Let me take you back to the time in the mid 90s when Neeraj and Jongky were wandering aimlessly around the streets of Tumkur as engineering students. For the folks who do not know, Tumkur is a little town tucked away in the back of beyond. Due to a serious lack of social life and also potential eye candy, they decided to engage themselves in something more serious and less frivolous than an obtaining an engineering degree. In time, they became a part of the college band which shot their stud status to dizzying heights – in Tumkur, that is.

A few years later, a scrawny pimple faced teenager sauntered in to the same college. The young and impressionable Ajit was captivated with the demigod status of Neeraj and Jongky – in Tumkur, that is. He was determined, he wanted some of the action for himself. Ajit went on to form a band of his own, and soon another band was thrown in the face of the hapless, unsuspecting engineering students of Tumkur.

Unfortunately you can only take so many years to complete an engineering degree, however hard you try. Four years later, they came out of college armed with an engineering degree in one hand and a guitar in the other. It soon became obvious to them that the degree had more weight and thus music was put on the backburner for a while as they got busy in their respective jobs.

Soon enough, to the shock and dismay of no one in particular, the monotony of a ‘regular job’ set in. And what else did they do but turn to music. This was the second beginning. Martin an old friend from another engineering college in Tumkur (where else) joined the trio as vocalist.A massive hunt for a drummer was launched via advertisements on the internet. Elaborate auditions were planned for the anticipated response.Only one person queued up outside the house for the job. Needless to say, he was selected. And thus,Vinay Raghavan aka Vinay,Vinnie,Rags made his grand entry and Sonic Flare was born. This was 2002.

The band began jamming in Neeraj’s house regularly when Martin moved out of the city for professional reasons. And you would think that this long story comes to an end here. Alas!! No such joy. Yet another beginning right here. Vinay roped in Saurabh as the vocalist and in a few years time, the band carved a name and space for itself in Bangalore. Things were finally falling in place when suddenly Saurabh decided to take a break from the band to pursue an MBA. This was circa 2009.

Vinay, in the short span of five long years, had assumed the position of problem solver, manager, gig magnet, carpet duster and the like. With his vast network, he was able to convince the young and effervescent Priyanka to join the band as a guest vocalist till the time that Saurabh got back. Priyanka apart from hugely shifting the average age of the band to the right side of 30, managed to infuse a new freshness to the sound of the band. Soon enough, the band had a huge fan following and were performing in prime venues in Bangalore. Rags soon roped in Nikhil as a vocalist to perform with the band. Apart from further shifting the average age to the right side of 30, Nikhil brought in a new zest to the band. Needless to say, Sonic Flare as it stands now is getting more and more popular with the crowds and the road ahead surely looks promising.

You would think that this long story would end here, right? Wrong. Sonic Flare has just begun !

What’s flying? Let’s ask the flightmeisters.

Arijit says, “When you stop chasing and accept what you have or don’t have, things just start to happen.”

Arijit Datta had been writing heart-touching melodies for years. On another stage, Vinay Lobo was strumming every genre he could think of from blues, funk, reggae, rock, jazz and R&B. They wondered what would happen if Arijit’s old world Hindi jazz were to meet Vinay’s crunchy blues.

They dialed a number that rang in a Bandra flat. Amit Ahuja (known to friends only as AmZ) answered and when Arijit asked if he’d like to bring his bass along for a trip, the band had found its bassist.

Zohran Miranda was an Oman-based musician with bands like Klarity and Human Touch. When he quit his job to pursue his music dreams in Mumbai, it seemed natural for him to hop on board, with his guitar.

Varun Venkit joined the band as the youngest member. Not belying his age, Varun brings the magic of drum circles with him. Varun’s movement, Taal Inc. specializes in joining different percussion instruments together in one music piece. Varun became the band’s percussionist.

Together, they form Airport, making you want to stop and ride with their music as they fly you through a myriad of emotions. Airport’s songs are primarily in Hindi with the characteristic Arijit flavour of Urdu infusions. They touch you, uplift you, rock you, get you to tap your feet, make you smile and reflect about things that were or may be.

Airport had a successful launch in December 2009 at Del Italia, Mumbai. They played to a packed house of 250 + people. Since then, the band has played at several youth festivals and hang-outs, corporate events and live music venues across India. Airport recently played in the prestigious NH7 Festival in Pune, December 2010.

Airport consists of Arijit Datta on vocals and guitar, Vinay Lobo on lead guitar, Amit Ahuja on bass, Zohran Miranda on rhythm guitar and Varun Venkat on drums. Pin It Now!

Formed in 2002, Barefaced Liar is an amalgamation of the distinct and eclectic musical taste of its members, Akshay Chowdhry (Vocals, Guitars), Sumant Balakrishnan (Guitars, Vocals) and Dushyant Purohit (Bass) .The band is heavily influenced by all time classic sounds of bands and artists such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, SRV, Hendrix and Metallica while leaning towards a more modern sound in the style of Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, etc.

Based out of a country and culture that is still embracing the concept of rock ‘n roll and live music , BFL has worked passionately on honing their craft in terms of combining technical skill and quality songwriting and believe that their hard work is ready to be recognized on a global scale. The combination of influences backed by a loaded blues rock driven guitar style that developed over the years, led to a unique east-west dynamic that has translated into complete and relevant songwriting. Over the past few years, the band has done dozens of studio sessions that have yielded positive results. Two of their tracks 'Glow' and 'Mirage', have received International acclaim as 'Semi Finalists' from the UK Songwriters Contest for 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Half Step Down live at Hard Rock Cafe Delhi on Thursday, July 14th!

Formed in 2005, Half Step Down began gigging in 2006 as essentially a rock ‘n’ roll band, though it would be more accurate to acknowledge their sound as a versatile mish-mash incorporating elements of the blues, alt-rock, funk, and reggae.

Consciously refusing to let themselves be fenced in by genres, they derive their sound from influences and inspirations ranging from Led Zeppelin, RHCP, and Dave Matthews to Rachmaninoff, Marley, and Django Reinhardt.

In early 2007 the band made it to GIR with their track Overture to Outerspace, which subsequently launched them on a much vaster platform. They spent most of the following year touring the country, taking time out in June to appear on Channel [V]’s show Launch Pad. They wrapped ‘07 with a highly acclaimed unplugged performance in their city, Delhi, where their cover of Redemption Song stood out as one of the critics’ finest of the evening. Known for their antics on stage, HSD are perhaps as much the performers, as they are the musicians.

With a hedonistic approach to music, they maintain an air of fun that remains a key quotient despite lineup changes and other minor disruptions. The nomenclature of the band is derived from the fact that the band tune their guitars a step down from standard tuning.

WHO:
Dhaval Mudgal- Vocals
Carl Abraham- Bass guitar
Shiv Lumba- Piano/Organ
Srijan Mahajan- Drums
Karan Dutta - Guitars and backing vocals
