What a moment it was for the entire nation, when Dhoni finished off in style with a biggie as India went on to beat Sri Lanka in the finals of this World Cup! Records were shattered and emotions ran high as every player passed on the "Cup that Matters" with tears of joy!

"Overhauls can be powerful. And more so when they happen in your own garage. Spook is a band that’s a manifestation of pure, unbridled, raw energy. A collective of five band expats barely-into-their-twenties minds; Spook sounds fresh off the laundromat – spiffy.
Akshay Deodhar on vocals and rhythm guitar is the songwriting talent, crafting the incendiary musicianship of Anis Gandhi on piano, Zain Calcuttawala on percussion and drums, Clavell Santiago on violin and Sonam Lama on bass into scattered sound-packets stitched in melodies and harmonies. Grunge based, heavy, reverberating sounds echo in a spiral of constant whirlpool of musical emoting – Spook represent everything a young band should be. Passionate.
That’s the least you can expect out of an outfit represented by a gawking Owl called Pedro as the mascot, considering their influences range from Pearl jam, Chris Cornell, Coldplay, RHCP, GooGoo Dolls, Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, The Calling and Kings of Leon to name a few. Progressively new age, yet rebelliously old-skool; Spook songs bridge the gaps between instrumental solos and melodic riffs enchantingly.
Diverse logic may be easy to define each band mate’s musical heritage Post their one gig at Café Goa where they played a 3 song solo set, where a call for resurrection from a threatening damper called power failure only displayed their eclectic performance skills. This be true grunge and just made you raise your fingers in a \m/. ‘Spook’ have the potential to spook the daylights out of you. Hang around and lend an ear!"

Randolph, Shiraz, Papal and Vishal came together in 1994, with a strong need to play individual, original, unique music. This was as much a reaction to the stagnating Indian Rock scene, populated by bands playing mostly cover music, as it was a primal instinct. They did the rounds of college festivals, almost immediately becoming well known and popular, by winning three major rock competitions at the Kanpur, Delhi and Mumbai IIT‟s. They signed a record deal and put out their first album (We Are Not Listening) in 1996. It was listed by Rhythm House (India's premier record store) as the fastest selling rock album. They released two videos ('The Ignorant 1‟ and 'Yoo') which were frequently played by all the music channels.
Pentagram were MTV India's 'Artist of the Month' in 1997. They also won the Channel V awards for Best Live Band and Best Indian Band in 1997 & 1998. They were featured on Channel V's Big Gig show, a showcase of an hour long live performance. They played gigs in the Seychelles and all across Indian Campuses, while figuring out their sound when they put out their second album (Up, 2002), their audiences were taken by surprise. The alternative rock band they had known had added a huge electronic edge to their sound.
During the Kargil war, Pentagram recorded and released India's first exclusive-to internet song, „The Price of Bullets‟, which featured famous poet Javed Akhtar and popular Indian Classical artist Shankar Mahadevan. The video, directed by Farhan Akhtar, one of India's most successful young filmmakers, was blacked out by channels across the board for being 'too politically loaded‟. It was added as a bonus track on their second album “Up”.
They became the first Indian Band to top Asian mp3.com charts with six songs going to No. 1 for over two weeks each. ('Drive', 'Strange', 'Think of Me, 'Don't Care', 'Is there a Light?', 'The Price of Bullets' all featured on „Up‟). Their single, 'Think of Me', went to no. 5 in the world on Billboard's talent hunt site. „Up‟ was later released and published by their self owned music label, „Pentagrammusic‟, produced and distributed by Sony Music (India). It went on to become one of India's highest selling rock albums with more then 15,000 copies sold. A string of awards followed including Best Live Act at the June Rock Out awards in 2003, winning the readers poll for 'Best Indian Band' by Rock Street Journal twice.
Their new edge brought them international recognition, in that the doors of several festivals were flung open to them. They headlined the Sundance Music Festival in Estonia in 2003, a first for any Indian band. They were also invited to, and played at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2005. This was a real high point, as they not only became the first Indian Act to play there, but also became aware of the real possibilities of their music. They were able to share the stage with contemporary giants like Coldplay, Chemical Brothers, Tori Amos, Fat Boy Slim and White Stripes. Seeing how they stood up to huge acts, and how positive the audiences were knee-jerked Pentagram into producing their last album “It‟s OK, It‟s All Good”, released by Counter Culture Records in March 2007 has been very well received. The album spent 6 weeks on Planet M’s national sales charts peaking at no. 3, again a first for any Indian rock band. The first single off this album Voice won the Song Of The Year at the recent Jack Daniel’s Annual Indian Rock Awards. The same night Vishal was awarded Vocalist Of The Year. Self assured, more mature, and yet, as edgy as ever, this year they hope to tour the festival circuit far more aggressively.
In 2010, the band toured the UK and received rave reviews for their performances. They also began a series of Webisodes called PENTA TV which covered live videos from backstage, and covered everything about their lives over the past 17 years together.
Pentagram is a band that is best experienced live. Take a look at a few videos of the band.

The MoB line-up includes Philipe (vocals & lead guitars), Vinoo (bass), Rauf (vocals & keyboard) and Deepak (drums). Although Philipe, Deepak and Vinoo have been playing together since 1993, MoB as a concept and a band, was formed in 2005.
Sarat Sidhan was the original Bass player for MoB. He moved out of Bangalore & MoB for professional reasons a year later. The first difficult task was coming up with a name that suitably described the blues-rock music played by the band. After experimenting with a series of names the band finally settled on “Ministry of Blues” coined by Deepak or DK for short, which somehow seemed to sum up the overall feel of the band.
MOB performed their first gig Bangalore to all of ten people...but then The Police have actually played a gig where only three people showed up! The subsequent performances showed a rapid recovery with turnouts ranging from crowded to over crowded. The success of MoB’s performances, marked by raw energy, quickly generated great interest in the band.
MOB's repertoire is a mix of classics like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Robben Ford, John Mayall, Joe Cocker, Deep Purple, Gary Moore and Eric Clapton among others. The band is known for their unique rock renditions of these classic tracks, making their music appealing to lovers of rock, rhythm and blues.

‘The Echoes’ is an outcome of a brilliantly discussed idea over a table of beers. ‘The Echoes’ were formed in the year 2005 with a vision to be one of India’s leading bands known for their brilliant original compositions. At the time the listener base was opening up to the idea of Original English music by an Indian Band. The challenge was trying to utilize this opportunity to create their own sound and continue to increase the patronization of the existing & growing listener base. Instead of going gung-ho about participating in competitions and constantly doing free shows with a hope of getting some recognition, The Echoes took a different route. They visualized themselves to be a professional band and functioned like one from the very first day. They would pitch to pubs and restaurants around Mumbai and Pune for paid gigs. The cash registers started ringing slowly but steadily, and word started doing the round as the bands popularity started to grow. The increase in fan base and great reviews ensured the band many more regular gigs. Since then, ‘The Echoes’ have done Corporate Shows and played at leading venues in Mumbai and Pune.
‘The Echoes’ had a plan for their music too. Since the crowd that visited pubs and restaurants were more inclined to covers, they started out as a jam band. They’d play a well known cover and improvise the song with their own style and touch - sometimes compose lines impromptu and skillfully add them in the song. They also played really rare covers of famous bands. The non - commercial nature of the songs and good renditions were welcomed by the regular audience. This paved the way for ‘The Echoes’ to slip in and surprise them with their originals.
It wasn’t up until the year 2008, when cost effective recording opportunities came about and ‘The Echoes’ decided to record their debut album, ‘Stitched’.
Stitched relates to the sewing movement that binds together each moment and feeling to bring forth a finished product – the garment of life …

Originally known as Pythagoras & The Right Angles (formed in 1991), The band reunited as One Night Stand in May 2003 as a result of a chain mail sent by MTV looking out for professional rock bands who could be part of a classic rock jam session for a particular event. The gig was well received with an overwhelming response. Aimed to be a One Night Stand in its true sense, the band had no intentions of doing anything together seriously. But after the gig everyone in the band realized the potential and decided to carry forward this wonderful effort. Since every member has been with the band for a long time and were already professional musicians, the sound was always tight and the vibes on stage were fantastic.
The band since 1991 has participated and won in major rock competitions. the band has performed all around India including the I-Rock, Rock against Drugs festivals in the city. The band also opened for Apache Indian in his 4-city tour of India and has also opened for the New Zealand rock band Supergroove. As One Night Stand, the band has performed at the YPO festival in Goa that was attended by India’s leading businessmen including Dr. Vijay Mallya, Anil & Mukesh Ambani, Rajdeep Sardesai, Gautam Singhania etc.

The Works was formed when Mihir decided to put together a good old fashioned rock 'n' roll band. He met up with Shannon, whom he had seen before with another band and asked him if he'd like to join him in forming a new band. Shannon agreed and soon Hansel, Shannon's childhood friend joined in on drums. Partho came along next on the rhythm and lead guitar and the last person to join was Michael who stepped in on bass to complete the band.
One of the things that makes The Works stand apart is that they are totally open minded about the music that they play. Just seeing the bands they cover should give you an idea of what this implies. They take on ACDC, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Buddy Guy, Deep Purple, The Doors, Eagles, Elvis, Guns n Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Motorhead, Ozzy Osbourne, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Rolling Stones, U2, ZZ Top and more!
Their originals reflect their myriad influences and their songs are basically saying that "Rock 'n' roll is still alive and kicking ass!" They got together on the 13th of August 2007 and since then have gone on play over 60 shows since then!

Retronome is a fun cover band that believes in churning out hits... and nothing but the hits! Although relatively new, they have become one of Bangalore's most sought-after bands. If you want your party to rock, you call Retronome!
And while the band is new-ish, the band members have been playing with other bands and projects for well over 10 years now. A typical Retronome gig will include pop-rock and rock hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today. Retronome has been playing at all the big venues in Bangalore.
The lineup:
Chris Avinash - lead vocals, lead guitar. Chris is a singer/songwriter/musician and runs his own studio which is called Christortion! Chris is the livewire in the band and has been known to talk non-stop in his sleep as well!
Ryan Colaco - drums. Ryan is one of Bangalore's best drummers and a passionate animal lover. Ryan has his own fan following - mostly human. He has just returned from a tour of Europe with his other band Kryptos and is feeling pretty pleased with himself!
Tiny D'Souza - lead guitar. Tiny is a guitar god. He lives, breathes and eats music. Tiny is the Joe Satriani of Bangalore. He just cut his hair and is one step closer to the Satriani look!
Uday Jose - keyboards, backing vocals. Uday has played with different bands and projects and is extremely talented. He teaches music and is fondly called "Yanni"! He isn't fond of that nickname.
Riccha Paul - vocals. Riccha has an engineering background and is currently pursuing music. She has been singing on the circuit for a few years now and is comfortable with rock, pop and jazz. She also loves dancing - someone, please ask her to dance on stage!
Saggy - bass guitar, backing vocals. Saggy is an RJ with Radio Indigo and hosts The Rock Show. His real job, however, is with an NGO, something he is committed to for life. Saggy is a recent Justin Bieber convert and you will often catching him humming along to "Eenie Meenie". At this point, the band pretends he's not with them.

What started as a simple jam between friends has turned into a passion we call “Blues before Sunrise”, a contemporary blues band whose roots are firm in the blues and classic rock, from Howlin’ wolf to Eric Clapton, while drawing influences from more recent music icons like John Mayer, Oasis, Ocean Color Scene and The Raconteurs.
As five working individuals from different background our music brings us together us and has formed lasting bonds between us. It is our tool to artistically express the myriad emotions we experience everyday.
Sidharth, the band's Beatles fanatic, is our guitarist and vocalist. Blues is his new found love and he's the one who’s forcing the rest of us to go down to the crossroads! He's a bit of a songwriter and is now trying his hand at the blues harp.
Sheela, the band's Mama cass, our lead vocalist and ecclesiastic influence, adds a smooth finish to the otherwise rough edges that inevitably form when four blokes form a band!
Srish, on lead guitar, the band's shy one, is also the most serious musician amongst us and his love for all things Spanish inevitably finds its way through our music. His love for experimentation keeps the rest of Us on our toes!
Claude, the baby of the group, is on drums. He is the latest addition to the band and Besides his great hands on the drums, he's a pro at the keys Sam, the popular one, is on vocals and bass and is the most experienced musician among us. He's the one with the sense of humor and lightens up our act with his love for hats and thumping bass lines!

Split is a bunch of old friends, a quintet of drinking buddies, and musicians that know how to floor a tune. They formed in 2001 and, after the usual rock 'n' roll roulette of line-up changes, broken strings, lost equipment and assorted mishaps, settled on the perfect formula for chaos. With Garreth on vocals, Mel and Aviv on guitars, Shekhar on bass and Nigel on drums, Split’s music has conquered stages, hearts, and minds across the country.
Split's music is equally about conflict and resolution.
A slick construction of wit and drunken wisdom, with baritone bass and pounded drums that chase edgy guitar riffs and screaming solos right down to a breakdown of nuclear proportions. The themes range from the epic to the mundane; from slimy evangelists to train travel, from revolution to becoming 'adult', and from existential angst to the eternal favourite - a broken heart.
At the end of 2008, the band took what turned out to be an extended break, during which all 5 members pursued various other paths, musical and nonmusical.
The band is now back with a vengeance, and with a steady supply of new ideas, old grouses, and 7-year vatted rum.

"Ungulates" Judging by the name, we can’t really be taken seriously now, can we? So what exactly is it that comprises of this band?
Their influences are The Beatles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Doobie Brothers and Elvis as well as jazz artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Brubeck and Joe Pass.
Their genre of music seems to be as abstract as the name itself, ranging from jazz/funk, Soul Blues and even Rock n Roll.
Bored of singing regular Tenor voice in many choirs, lead singer Dean felt the need of venturing into a more versatile form of music.
Meanwhile, long time friends Daniel and Mikhail, both classical guitarists too wanted to break away from this traditional genre. Destiny being fulfilled, Dean and Mikhail turned out to be college mates, thus out came The Ungulates. Only a drummer and a keyboardist remained, but once again on attending a college festival, Daniel noticed a fellow colleague who at first he mistook for Jim Morrison himself, thus Joaquim came about.
After turning down a series of drummers, then along came Karun. The boys had not seen a drummer with such flair for improvisation and creativity. This gave rise to the 5 piece Ungulates (Like 5 digit mammals) but not for long since Ralcus soon joined on guitar enhancing the ‘funky’ feel of the band.
Defining features of the band include odd time signatures, syncopated rhythms, harmonized chord progressions and mostly their ‘off beat’ phrasing.

Pearl Jam is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Eddie Vedder (lead vocals, guitar), Jeff Ament (bass guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), and Mike McCready (lead guitar). The band's current drummer is Matt Cameron, also of Soundgarden, who has been with the band since 1998.
Formed after the demise of Ament and Gossard's previous band, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam broke into the mainstream with its debut album, Ten. One of the key bands of the grunge movement in the early 1990s, Pearl Jam was criticized early on as being a corporate cash-in on the alternative rock explosion. However, over the course of the band's career its members became noted for their refusal to adhere to traditional music industry practices, including refusing to make music videos and engaging in a much-publicised boycott of Ticketmaster. In 2006, Rolling Stone described the band as having "spent much of the past decade deliberately tearing apart their own fame."
Since its inception, the band has sold over thirty million records in the U.S., and an estimated sixty million worldwide. Pearl Jam has outlasted many of its contemporaries from the alternative rock breakthrough of the early 1990s, and is considered one of the most influential bands of the decade. Allmusic refers to Pearl Jam as "the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s."
