The Lightyears Explode are a three piece garage/Indie/punk band from Mumbai, Maharashtra. Formed in 2009 The band comprises of Aaron Carvalho on Drums, Shalom Benjamin on Bass and Saurabh Roy on Guitar/Vocals.

Since their inception the then “The Lightyears”(named changed due to copyright issues) hit the Mumbai college circuit, strong performances and positive word of mouth eventually resulted in them breaking into the legitimate scene with gigs with likes of Rosemary, Blakc And Khiladi. Their song “The Weapon” was featured on “Stupid Stupid Stupid” The third installment of the nation wide un-metal compilation album “Stupid Ditties” and "She Probably Still Is" was featured in the fourth edition of the same.

The LightYears explode are set to release their debut EP In the month of March 2010.

Saurabh got into music through 90’s alternative/punk and garage revival bands Like the white stripes, arctic monkeys and the hives. He doesn’t leave his room unless absolutely necessary, sometimes not even then.

Goregaon believes in Shalom. No seriously, walk him on the road in Goregoan and you’ll discover EVERYONE knows him.If the band fails, he could always run for office. His favorite bass players are Matt Freeman and Flea.

Aaron is loud and we don’t just mean on the drums. In his free time he plays drums at weddings, funerals and even ganpati visarjans, THIS is his biggest influence on the drums.

Something Relevant aka STR, young India’s leading Jam Rock Band, is now poised to take off to the Stadium Stage. After setting pan-India and international venues alight over five live-wire years through countless gigs and a reputation for explosive live acts, STR have fast established themselves as the reigning authority on Feel-good!

The 7-member ensemble have discovered sounds that are a resonating fusion of their classic blend of jazz, funk, blues, reggae, rock, pop, soul & Afro highlife, with the pulsing metrics of the megapolis Bombay. Their sonic influences spring from a vast variety of spaces that culminate in a lilting freshness, a new generational identity with which the city’s force has come to relate. It is the voice of the generation of today, upbeat, improvisational. Dominated by funk though it be, it exudes the undying optimism of a new-young nation, signaling to the world the coming-of-age of a whole new Indian genus.

The Bombay-based band's debut album 'Feels Good 2B Live' (2009)(Relevant Records/Silk Road) gathers with brio a collection of songs that are drawn from personal experiences and dreams, interspersed with gripping instrumental jams of youthful effervescence and irrepressible love for the stage – sounds of a nation –in-change!

Junkyard Groove live at Hard Rock Cafe Hyderabad on Thursday, 3rd March!!

Photobucket

Over the years the Indian sub continent has been brewing quiet a few underground rock bands, and in the summer of 2005 Chennai gave us Junkyard Groove. Ameeth Thomas, Siddharth Srinivasan and Craig Maxworth got together almost randomly and realized that they had something to contribute to the world of Indian Rock and Roll.

Ameeth started of his music career fronting a few other bands before Junkyard Groove, as was the same with the other guys. Siddharth the youngest of the lot played with bands that found there roots in classic and funk rock covers. Craig entered the music scene with a band that was pretty much a ‘Rage Against The Machine’ tribute band.

Maybe your reading this to find out more about Junkyard Groove. Or maybe you already know what ever you need to know about them, from Myspace and Facebook. Maybe you’ve seen them live at a few local rock competitions. Maybe you’ve seen them win every one of them. Maybe you’ve jumped around to their music at shows like ‘Rock In India’, ‘Channel V Launch PAD’, ‘Strawberry Fields’… etc Maybe you got a little to drunk and passed out before they finished their set. Maybe you heard of them when they opened for the Dubai Desert Rock Festival. Or maybe you just came over to watch Iron Maiden and Incubus. Maybe you’ve listened to their music online and liked it. Maybe you hated it. Maybe you’re sick and tired of waiting for their album to come out. Or maybe you felt better when you heard that the new GNR album might beat them to it.

With their fourth birthday around the corner Junkyard Groove is going through a lot of difficult negotiations to get their Album out. The Music is good but the Music Industry is not such a pretty picture after all. But never the less the album would be out eventually, and we would all go back home with smiles on our faces.

Who knows maybe they’d be in your city next weekend, and maybe there just might be a lot of alcohol around, and maybe you just might pass out before they finish their set. If that happens this has been a brief overview of the madness that is Junkyard Groove.

Rock for a cause with Swarathma live at Hard Rock Cafe Bengaluru on Thursday, 3rd March!

Photobucket

Here is our next initiative for a social good!! Inviting all to come rock for a cause in support of "Teach For India"!

Photobucket

Swarathma is a Bangalore (India) based contemporary folk-fusion band that represents the sound of today’s India: rooted in tradition, yet with sights set firmly on the world. The sound is Indian folk and Classical with Reggae, Blues and Jazz in a blend that is one-of-a-kind.

Swarathma released 2 albums on EMI in 2009, and have worked with the legendary John Leckie (Raidohead, Muse). They swept the Jack Daniels Indian Rock Awards 2009 winning Band, Song and Album of the Year. The band is known for a visually electric interactive stage act featuring folk-horses and Nehru Topis. This act won over audiences at top festivals such as Lovebox and Larmer Tree Festivals in London and Awtar Festival in Morocco. They have traveled to Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore as well.

Swarathma first music video 'Pyaasi' was launched in May 2010. Funded by the Gibson Foundation and the Global Water Challenge, it speaks of the fragility of water told through a story of contrasts. It features the voice of legendary Indian Classical singer Shubha Mudgal who
collaborated with Swarathma on the track. Academy Award nominated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur was creative consultant to the video that was shot in the wind-swept arid desert land of Rajasthan.

The band wears their social conscience on their sleeve. They play one free show for every paid show, giving back their music to those who may not be able to watch them easily. They've played for leprosy centres, villages, orphanages and street kids at various times. With music that is strong and beautiful, contemporary and relevant, hard-hitting and tongue-in-cheek, they were India's busiest band in 2010.

International Women Day celebration - Shaa'ir + Func & Soulmate live at Hard Rock Cafe Mumbai on Tuesday, 8th March!

Photobucket

Arguably the most commercially successful indie bands in India right now, Shaa’ir + func are certainly on their way to being the most prolific. Formed officially in 2007, Shaa’ir + func, commonly known as S+F, have already garnered recognition as VH1’s top emerging artists of 2007, best independent artists of 2008 (VH1), nominations from the AVIMA foundation as Best Dance Act in South-East Asia, and recognition from the Jack Daniel Rock Awards for best female front-woman of a band among others.

In three years, whilst actively touring throughout India, the UK, and the East coast of the US, S+F wrote and released two commercially successful albums, New Day: The Love Album, and Light Tribe. They recently released their third record under critical acclaim entitled MANTIS with Bluefrog Records. Their music includes a heavy dose of experimentation within the popular and cutting edge genres of dance/electronic/and rock music, while retaining a world pop accessibility.

S+F can’t stop, won’t stop, and seem to be riding some sort of magic carpet that was created by the eastern winds specifically for them – This carpet has carried them to play at the Big Chill Festival UK, Glastonbury UK, Oya Festival Norway, C/O Pop Germany, On The River Fest UK, India Festival Amsterdam, Nokia Music Festival Dubai, MIDEM Music Conference France, and more crazy parties across the Indian Sub-Continent. Ambassador’s for what they call The New India, S+F’s music is as explosive and flavorsome as India’s cuisine itself; a suitable metaphor for the versatility of these punk, guru-esque, elctro-folk, soul-funk, down and up-beat musicians of the world.

Soulmate: If it’s the Blues you want, then Soulmate is what you need!! This band from Shillong has been around for 8 years now playing all over India, the US, Paris, Singapore, Kathmandu. The duo of Tipriti ‘Tips’ Kharbangar and Rudy Wallang can sing and play the Blues like no one else can. You’ve got to see and hear them to believe it!!

The other people live at Hard Rock Cafe Pune on Thursday, 10th March!

Photobucket

The Other People is a Mumbai - based band who formed seven years ago, when an enterprising group of musicians came together. The band saw early success and stood out in the crowd, aptly calling themselves ‘The Other People’. The band performs renditions of popular songs of artists from the late 1950s right up to the 2000s. They have started composing their own music and in the process of recording the same.

The band debuted with a frenzied night of classic rock and rock and roll at Not Just Jazz By The Bay, Mumbai in July 2004. Jam packed shows and many rehearsals later, The Other People had Mumbai’s nightlife abuzz and became hugely popular for their Rock and Roll renditions. Qualified Soft Rock, Retro and Rock and Roll as their distinguishable genre. With Reggae and Blues coming a close second, the band has a wide audience and fan following of people aged anything between 16 and 60 plus, and more often than not, the band ensures that they ‘dance till they drop!’ Known to bring an original twist into each track, the band never fails to surprise an audience and has them hooked.

Medusa is an electronic/rock band from Bombay. Four of us play in the band — Rakshit (Vocals/Samples), Rahul (Guitar/Samples), Siddharth (Bass) and Harsh (Drums). We’ve played some good shows and worked with some of the best folks in the Indian independent music scene. We’re an album-old, working on a new one, and have enough tracks inside our heads to keep us busy making music for a long long time to come.

Medusa was selected as one of the four bands from India to be part of a new project organized by the British Council called Soundpad. The project involved recording two tracks with legendary producer John Leckie at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. John Leckie has worked with bands such as Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Verve and each of The Beatles individually. As part of Soundpad, Medusa performed at the Great Escape Festival 2009 in Brighton and continued their UK tour to Cardiff, Oxford, Liverpool and London.

BLAKC started in 2005 when Shawn (vocals) and Anish (guitars) started jamming in St. Xavier‟s College. 2006 saw Roop and Shishir join the band on bass and drums respectively. In 2007, the final lineup change was Reinhardt on guitars. Since then we have played nearly 70 shows and competitions across ten cities in India. Shows with 50 people to shows with over 3,000 people like in Indore, Kanpur, Pune, Ahmedabad, Assam and Delhi.

BLAKC is only about two things, the music and the fans. Our music enables us to connect with an audience whether big or small. We have a brilliant show if we know the audience has enjoyed themselves with us. We only play our own music and have released our first album entitled „Choking On A Dream‟. The album has sold over 700 copies and has received some great reviews from HT café, HT Times and Rolling Stone with more to come.

BLAKC has always made an effort to keep in touch with our fans through the internet. Today BLAKC has over 5000 fans on Facebook, 25,000 hits on MySpace, ReverbNation and Bandcamp, and is the #1 Alternative band in India on ReverbNation. Tribute to Bon Jovi at Hard Rock Cafe Hyderabad on Wednesday, 16th March!

Bon Jovi is an American hard rock band from Sayreville, New Jersey. Formed in 1983, Bon Jovi consists of lead singer and namesake 'Jon Bon Jovi' (John Francis Bongiovi, Jr.), guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres as well as current bassist Hugh McDonald. The band's line-up has remained mostly static during their history, the only exception being the departure of Alec John Such in 1994, who was unofficially replaced by Hugh McDonald. The band became known for writing several rock anthems, and achieved widespread recognition with their third album Slippery When Wet, released in 1986. After touring and recording non-stop during the late 1980s, the band went on hiatus after the New Jersey Tour in 1990, during which time Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora both released successful solo albums. In 1992, the band returned with the album Keep the Faith. Their 2000 single "It's My Life", which followed a second hiatus, successfully introduced the band to a younger audience. Bon Jovi have been known to use different styles in their music, which has included country for their 2007 album Lost Highway. Their latest album, The Circle, was released on 10 November 2009 in the United States.

Throughout their career, the band have released eleven studio albums, three compilation albums and one live album, and have sold 130 million records worldwide.
