"Ungulates" Judging by the name, we can’t really be taken seriously now, can we? So what exactly is it that comprises of this band?

Their influences are The Beatles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Doobie Brothers and Elvis as well as jazz artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Brubeck and Joe Pass.

Their genre of music seems to be as abstract as the name itself, ranging from jazz/funk, Soul Blues and even Rock n Roll.

Bored of singing regular Tenor voice in many choirs, lead singer Dean felt the need of venturing into a more versatile form of music.

Meanwhile, long time friends Daniel and Mikhail, both classical guitarists too wanted to break away from this traditional genre. Destiny being fulfilled, Dean and Mikhail turned out to be college mates, thus out came The Ungulates. Only a drummer and a keyboardist remained, but once again on attending a college festival, Daniel noticed a fellow colleague who at first he mistook for Jim Morrison himself, thus Joaquim came about.

After turning down a series of drummers, then along came Karun. The boys had not seen a drummer with such flair for improvisation and creativity. This gave rise to the 5 piece Ungulates (Like 5 digit mammals) but not for long since Ralcus soon joined on guitar enhancing the ‘funky’ feel of the band.

Defining features of the band include odd time signatures, syncopated rhythms, harmonized chord progressions and mostly their ‘off beat’ phrasing.
