MEDUSA PERFORMING LIVE AT HARD ROCK PUNE ON THURSDAY, 4th MARCH!!

Medusa is an electronic/rock band from Bombay. Four of us play in the band—Raxit (Vocals/Samples), Rahul (Guitar/Samples), Siddharth (Bass) and Vinayak (Drums). We’ve played some good shows and worked with some of the best folks in the Indian independent music scene. We’re an album-old, working on a new one, and have enough tracks inside our heads to keep us busy making music for a long long time to come.

Medusa was selected as one of the four bands from India to be part of a new project organized by the British Council called Soundpad. The project involved recording two tracks with legendary producer John Leckie at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. John Leckie has worked with bands such as Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Verve and each of The Beatles individually. As part of Soundpad, Medusa performed at the Great Escape Festival 2009 in Brighton and continued their UK tour to Cardiff, Oxford, Liverpool and London.

BHOOMI PERFORMING LIVE AT HARD ROCK BENGALURU ON THURSDAY, 4th MARCH!!

Hailing from the garden city of Bangalore, India, Bhoomi was formed in April 2002 quickly rising to prominence in the Indian metal circuit and soon established a rapidly growing fan base all over the country. Arguably one of the most eclectic metal bands around, Bhoomi have since gigged extensively all over India building a reputation as one of the most enthralling live acts to have surfaced from the rising metal scene in the country.

With their roots firmly entrenched in the classic metal of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Queensryche and other seminal hard rock and metal bands of the 80's, Bhoomi are arguably one of the finest exponents of pure, melodic metal anyone is likely to find. Using traditional hard rock and metal as their base, Bhoomi stand out from the crowd with their unique incorporation of three way vocal harmonies into their music, which instantly gives them an identity and sound that is all their own. Throw in some classy songwriting and technical prowess into the mix and you have a band that can make you bang your head with pounding riffs and dazzle you with a catchy and superlatively melodic chorus before you get a chance to catch your breath. Another aspect of the band that has further endeared them to their fans is their lyrical stance, which rages against corruption and champions the cause of the common man.

Half Step Down
Formed in 2005, Half Step Down began gigging in 2006 as essentially a rock ‘n’ roll band, though it would be more accurate to acknowledge their sound as a versatile mish-mash incorporating elements of the blues, alt-rock, funk, and reggae.

Consciously refusing to let themselves be fenced in by genres, they derive their sound from
influences and inspirations ranging from Led Zeppelin, RHCP, and Dave Matthews to Rachmaninoff,
Marley, and Django Reinhardt.

In early 2007 the band made it to GIR with their track Overture to Outerspace, which subsequently launched them on a much vaster platform. They spent most of the following year touring the country, taking time out in June to appear on Channel [V]’s show Launch Pad. They wrapped ‘07 with a highly acclaimed unplugged performance in their city, Delhi, where their cover of Redemption Song stood out as one of the critics’ finest of the evening.

Known for their antics on stage, HSD are perhaps as much the performers, as they are the musicians. With a hedonistic approach to music, they maintain an air of fun that remains a key quotient despite lineup changes and other minor disruptions.
The nomenclature of the band is derived from the fact that the band tune their guitars a stepdown from standard tuning.

Shruti was born in Chennai, and completed her schooling there before going to Mumbai to pursue Psychology. And despite having movie-star parents, Shruti has always been adamant about making it on her own. A well-read musician to say the least, she has quite a few feathers in her cap!

Indian Influence
She was trained in Hindustani Classical music for 4 years with two well known artists; Indian Classical Musician & Playback singer, Suresh Wadkar in Mumbai and later with Tabla player & Musician Pundit Manohar Kulkarni in Chennai. She was also one of the first students to write an exam in Classical Indian music for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Board
Examinations, and she passed with distinction.

Western Influence
Having become self-aware at an early age about her talents, and having already excelled in Indian Classical music, Shruti was now ready for a global perspective. She enrolled in the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. This she describes as one of her favourite musical learning-experiences, as she trained for two years in various genres like jazz, country music, etc. She developed the western style of singing and sense of writing songs.

Instruments, Skills and Performance
Amidst all her learning, she found time to learn to play the piano and the keyboard. She also developed a background in Audio Engineering. She earned herself a degree from Vellore Institute of Technology/ Victorian Institute of Technology., even while topping her class in Performance & Songwriting.

Backed by her schooling and the realization that she had spent most of her life involved in music & exploring writing, Shruti set an ambitious foot forward to make her mark in the fields of Music and Cinema.

Apart from her performances in the world of films and with her band, Shruti has also collaborated with a number of musicians from Los Angeles, USA. Saving Abel_Mailer_Mumbai_Revised

SAVING ABEL: Biography
"You know when you hear a song on the radio and you don't know who it is, but you love it and feel like you've heard it before? That's our band! The first time someone hears us, they go, 'I know that band!' Then someone explains, 'no, it's a brand-new song and band.' Saving Abel has an accessible and comfortable sound---you HAVE heard us before," states lead singer Jared Weeks. On their self-titled Virgin Records debut, songs range from the wild road tale in "New Tattoo" to the sexual innuendos of the aptly titled first single, "Addicted."

Weeks and Jason Null formed the band in their small hometown of Corinth, Mississippi in 2004. They met when Weeks, who was in a band, was playing guitar at his best friend's house, when Null, who was in a rival local group, walked in to rehearse with his band. Within days of that meeting, Null and Weeks were writing and honing the intimate writing style that now defines Saving Abel. In early 2005, the pair's songs caught the ear of noted producer Skidd Mills (12 Stones, Saliva, Submersed), who took the band into his 747 Studios in Memphis. Mills notes, "It was '18 Days' that hooked me. The first time I heard it I was like, 'these guys are the real deal; they'll be doing this for a long time.' Jason and Jared have always understood that the most important part of the music business is having great songs."

Saving Abel gradually came together in the final electric lineup of guitarist Scott Bartlett, bassist Eric Taylor, and drummer Blake Dixon, and the band paid its dues both onstage and off. Weeks would toss Saving Abel demos onto the stage when bigger bands played in town, and between playing gigs, working day jobs, and Weeks and Null constantly driving from Mississippi to Memphis to record their self-titled EP with Mills, it was a busy and prolific couple years. Weeks remembers; "I used to work at a hospital. I'd have to be there at 4:30 in the morning drawing blood. I'd wake people up and stick a needle in their arm. I'd be walking around the hospital, singing 'Addicted' in my head, writing down the lyrics on patients' clipboards and doctor script pads."

Null and Weeks bring in differing songwriting approaches influences, giving Saving Abel a well-rounded sound. Null comes from a musical family, and recalls Saturday nights at the local community center as a child. "We didn't miss it, ever! It was bluegrass band after bluegrass band. We'd hoot and holler, as we used to say. My brother traded my bike for a guitar for me when I was 6, and I learned 'Johnny B. Goode' that night! I go back to Willie and Waylon, but as a kid of the '80s, I also love Metallica. Also, Angus Young is one of my main influences, as well as the guitar sound and solos of Seattle bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains." For his part, a teenage Weeks played basketball and went to state twice in tennis before music consumed his life. A big fan of the blues and Southern Rock, Weeks calls himself the more "literal" songwriter of the two, explaining, "If something is really bothering me, or how I'm feeling at that moment, I'll write about it. For me to get the most out of a song, I have to get it almost to the point I'm ready to cry if I can't get it out, and that makes people relate to it."

After shopping their indie EP for almost a year, a copy of 'Addicted' found its way to one-time Virgin A&R Consultant Scott Frazier and manager partner Rick Smith. They were so excited that they sent the song to the label's Chairman/CEO Jason Flom. Flom was impressed upon first listen and immediately sent A&R vet Kim Stephens (Collective Soul, Matchbox 20, Edwin McCain) to see the band in Jackson, Tennessee. The band was signed the next day. Says Stephens, "I was sold on the merit of the songs and instantly recognized this was a band with huge potential."

Saving Abel, the Virgin debut produced by Mills, features mostly brand-new tunes, plus a few favorites from the indie EP, including the poignant, perfectly crafted "18 Days," "Running From You," and "Drowning Face Down." Null explains that "18 Days" was lyrically inspired by sheriff Buford Pusser of 'Walking Tall' fame, while laughingly admitting that the rowdy road trip in "New Tattoo" ("The blue is for the bruise you left in my heart / and the red is for the color we're about to paint this town") is "based on a true story." Null furthers: "Our goals are always to concentrate on the song, not just one cool part to make a kid bop his head. Every person I talk to loves a different song of ours." Null was also the one who gave the band its name: "I Googled the story of Cain and Abel and found a line about 'there was no Saving Abel,' which just jumped out at me." Everyone agreed and the name stuck... much like Saving Abel's songs get instantly stuck in the minds and ears of everyone who hears them. With a radio-ready sound combining big riffs and memorable melodies, Saving Abel has created a polished combination of Southern and Alternative rock... 2008 style. Get Addicted. Get Saving Abel.

OPENING ACT - THE OTHER PEOPLE

About six years ago, a talented, enterprising group of musicians came together to form what set out to be one of Mumbai’s most acclaimed bands. Indeed, the band saw early success and stood out in the crowd, aptly calling themselves ‘The Other People’. The band debuted with a frenzied night of Classic Rock and Rock n’ Roll at Not Just Jazz By The Bay, Mumbai in July 2004. Jam packed shows and many rehearsals later, The Other People had Mumbai’s nightlife abuzz and became hugely popular for their Rock n’ Roll renditions. Edgy and experimental, the band’s move into covering classic artists such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, Louis Amstrong, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Doors, Bon Jovi, U2, Bob Marley, Billy Joel, Billy Idol, Police, Status Quo, The Eagles, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Bee Gees etc; qualified Soft Rock, Retro and Rock n’ Roll as The Other People’s distinguishable genre. With Reggae and Blues coming a close second, the band has a wide audience and fan following of people aged anything between 16 and 60 plus, and more often than not, the band ensures that they ‘dance till they drop!’

Known to bring an original twist into each track, the band never fails to surprise an audience and has them hooked. Committed to quality music and entertainment extraordinaire, The Other People have innumerable shows under their belt and continue to wow crowds at Mumbai’s hotspots including the Hard Rock Café and Blue Frog. Along with these big clubs, the band has performed at the world – renowned ‘Lakme India Fashion Week’ Finale After Party in November 2008, the prestigious Terry Fox Marathon After Party, the launch of ‘Absolut Vodka’s Rock Edition’ and at a party hosted by one of India’s biggest and most respected Fashion Designers – Mr. Wendell Rodricks. Unstinting talent and a passion to perform drives the band to persistently raise the bar and endeavor to deliver something unique each time. Of course, being from India, the band adds its own little Indian flavour to each song they perform which makes them stand out and be different from the other Retro cum Rock n’ Roll bands around the world!

Depth started out as a 5 piece outfit of guys that just wanted to get drunk and play a few gigs. And after a few years of doing typically that, Howard, the primary songwriter for Depth realized that they had built up a small following of fans who loved their own compositions much more than the Covers they did.

After the mandatory line up changes and fall out between band members Depth now plays as a 4 piece band. They still drink and play a lot more now, but the band is driven and focused. Their Originals are unapologetic, heartfelt, hook driven, harmony layered, old school HARD ROCK. "

BLISS LOGIC LIVE AT HARD ROCK MUMBAI ON TUESDAY, 23rd FEBRUARY!

The seeds of Bliss Logic were planted in 2002, when Yanger’s current band mates drummer Lindsay D’Mello and bassist JD Thirumalai produced two tracks for Sleeping Buddha’s self-titled debut album. “Almost a year later, JD and I met up and, over a couple of beers, decided to record a track,” said Yanger. “Lindsay also got involved and we ended up spending a couple of recording sessions holed up in his music room, furiously crafting the track that was to be ‘Spill’.

The computer crashed after the last session and we ended up with a rough and unfinished mix that we had created the day earlier... that is the mix you will hear in the album. Anyway, somewhere along the line, I guess we all kinda gravitated towards writing more songs, jamming, hanging, recording, drinking, smoking, etc and four-to-fiver years later, we have The Big Thaw!!’” You may not find a lot of logic in the music of Bliss Logic but you will hopefully obtain a considerable amount of musical bliss.

“The tracks are just explorations of ideas, thoughts, moods, feelings... it’s intensely personal in that sense,” said Yanger. “But I’ve been told that it makes sense to a lot of people. So if it works... great.” Yanger’s lyrics are frequently abstract, but in the hands of D’Mello and Thirumalai –two formidable names in the Indian music scene – his diary entries are transformed into the kind of dreamy, ethereal rock that you could cosy up to a rainy night but just as easily chill out to a sun-kissed summer afternoon. “The music is pretty easy listening with bursts at parts of elements of electro, drum n’ bass, rock, jazz and blues, which create a mood of their own and have a subtle message of their own too, which is totally open to the listener’s perception,” said D’Mello.

Or one's that begin with about thirty fiery balls of fire, not in one bang, but a million colors ... so to say :)

And that's parikrama for you, ladies and the rest of us. They've stayed in orbit, and kept the light ... from six playing members to ten at times, they love playing those hearts out. And when it's time to stop playing around, like all good God's children, them go to work. Yes sirree, all of them us. Subir's THE manager - bands, events, lives, the family's and his own dozen businesses. Nitin's the "Official Music Producer", with his own studio and the works, while Dilip's a Video Editor/Producer and Chintan's also that, and then some. Sonam's his music school's headmaster and Saurabh's the chief guitar maestro and offiicial 'young boy'of the band ;o) More details can be demanded/requested by communicating at arikrama at parikrama.com or at the respective persons name at parikrama.com
